Our Curriculum Explained

Our Curriculum

Our school curriculum has been carefully developed to meet the needs of the children at Lingey House Primary School.  We recognise our duty to cover the statutory curriculum elements as defined in the EYFS curriculum, the National Curriculum and the Locally Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education.  Alongside this, we have considered our community, our school vision and core values to ensure we offer a curriculum which engages, excites and develops the whole child.

Our ‘Curriculum’ is all the planned activities that are organised in order to promote learning, personal growth and development.  It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also the range of additional opportunities that we organise in order to enrich the experiences of our children.

Throughout the school, our classes work co-operatively to ensure appropriate curriculum coverage, progression and challenge within the context of single age classes. Staff plan together and both teachers and teaching assistants are actively involved in the delivery of lessons and the assessment of children’s progress.

We have carefully considered the broad Intent, Implementation and Impact of our curriculum.  For more information, please read the PDF below.

Our School Curriculum

Cultural Capital

Every child and family who joins our school will have their own knowledge and experiences that will link to their culture and wider family. This might include: languages, beliefs, traditions, cultural and family heritage, interests, travel and work.

Cultural capital is the accumulation of knowledge, behaviours, and skills that a child can draw upon and which demonstrates their cultural awareness, knowledge and competence; it is one of the key ingredients a pupil will draw upon to be successful in society, their career and the world of work.

Cultural capital gives power. It helps children achieve goals, become successful, and rise up the social ladder without necessarily having wealth or financial capital. Cultural capital is having assets that give children the desire to aspire and achieve social mobility whatever their starting point.

At Lingey House Primary School, children benefit from a curriculum that builds on what they understand and know already. We believe that exposure, not only to culture but also to situations in which the children might not have previous experiences of, is of paramount importance to their ongoing successes.

Gradually widening children’s experiences as they progress through school is an important step in providing rich and engaging learning across the curriculum. We plan carefully for children to have progressively richer experiences in nursery and beyond. These include trips to the local park, shops and visits to places of worship, museums, sports and music venues just to name a few.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Lingey House Primary School, we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers. The Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. Further information can be found in the SEN information report.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
