Nursery

Welcome to our class page. Please explore it to find out what children have been learning and how you can help them at home.

In our nursery, children access either 15 hours or 30 hours per week.  In our class, we have children who are pre-school age (N2’s) and children who join us after their 3rd birthday (N1’s).

In Nursery, we follow ‘The High Scope Approach’, where the child is at the centre of the learning and the adults are there to support their journey. Over the day, we do ‘Plan-Do-Review’, small group times, large group times, carpet times, songs and stories. During ‘Plan-Do-Review' time, the children are in charge of their own learning, and we encourage ‘The Characteristics of Effective Learning’, where we want children to show motivation, think for themselves and have great engagement in what they ‘plan’ to do.

To learn well, children must approach opportunities with curiosity, energy and enthusiasm.  It is important that children understand that their ideas and play is important, and we want them to follow through with their plans. Our continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors, is carefully thought out to cover our PRIME and SPECIFIC areas, as well as the needs and next steps of the children, which they access during the day.

Our small group times are where the children take part in an activity where we want to push their learning on, and this can be either inside or outside. The activities are based around the PRIME and SPECIFIC areas and daily assessment:

Our Adults

In our Nursery, we have four key worker groups, and your child is assigned a key worker to lead their learning journey. The key worker is the person the child completes their small group task and carpet times with; their role is to discuss the child’s next steps and assessment with the team to further support learning. Our key workers collaboratively work to make sure children get the same experiences and opportunities over the week.

Class Teachers: Miss Hamilton & Mrs Cook - PPA Cover once per week.

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Goundry, Mrs Masson and Mrs Ingle.

Timings

On a morning, when children come into the nursery, we encourage a soft start, where they hang up their coats, self-register, speak to their key worker and then access provision before coming to the carpet for message board and group time. For 30 hours and morning session children, the register will be taken at 8.55am.

If any children arrive after the yard doors close at 8.55am, they are to enter school via the main entrance and report to the office.

Our afternoon children have the same routine when they arrive at 12:15pm.  The children are again encouraged to hang up their coats, self-register, speak to their key worker and then access provision before coming to the carpet for message board, group time and registration.

30hrs Children: 8:45am - 3:15pm

Morning Session Children: 8:45am - 11:45am

Afternoon Session Children: 12:15pm - 3:15pm

Homework

Each week on SeeSaw there will be a practical home learning task. This is to extend children’s learning as well as building links with home and school. Children love to share their work in class with their friends. This is also a way that we are able to welcome and encourage children to see their similarities and differences and share their world with peers.
