Down at the Farm

Our first week back after the Easter holiday and we're off on our school trip to the farm. We were very excited to meet the farmers and animals. We held rabbits, chicks, fed the lambs, brushed the donkey, washed the pigs and even went on a tractor ride. We asked the farmer lots of different questions when he was in the field. We even had time to try out the play area...

This half term we have been learning about Space and the children decided they would like to make a rocket. They independently selected resources and tested their rockets on the 'rocket launcher'. The children discussed why some rockets went further than others. The children identified that the rockets which had a 'good lid' on them went further. The children explained the rockets with a 'good lid' on the trapped more air and that made them go further. The children will have the opportunity to make a new rocket and they will test their theory!

The children have continued to work hard at school. They have been developing lots of skills whilst experimenting and exploring their environment.

We have been working very hard in our maths sessions. We have been weighing and measuring the ingredients to make pancakes. We have worked hard in the water area experimenting with different tools and we have been learning about capacity too.

During World Book Day, the children enjoyed various activities. They shared their favourite books with their friends; they dressed up as their favourite book characters and they wrote about their favourite book characters. The year five children came to our class and read with the reception children. The children really enjoyed sharing stories with them.

World Book Day 2017

This term we have been busy working inside and outside.

We have been learning about Diwali and how it is celebrated. We talked about Diva lamps and decided to create our own. The children used salt dough and created their own patterns and designs on them.

We have enjoyed developing our gross motor skills on the new climbing frame.

The children have been exploring colour mixing this week and created colour wheels.
The children have been busy developing their maths skills. They have been counting the numicon and ordering it from one to ten. In the water area the children have been developing their mathematical vocabulary. The children talked about the cylinders being full, half full and empty.

Our New Reception Class

The children have enjoyed working inside and outside of the classroom.
