Summer Term
Out topic this term is 'Growth and Change.'
We will be looking at plants, animals and minibeasts.
Spread the Happiness Afternoon
To celebrate the end of a successful reception year we had a 'Spread the happiness' afternoon. The parents/carers came and joined us for an afternoon of fun activities such as walking barefoot in jelly, making a rocket and launching it, apple bobbing and so many more. We had lots of fun!
Visit to Hall Hill Farm
We visited Hall Hill Farm. We found out about lots of different animals and where they came from. We fed the animals including bottle feeding some lambs. We held chicks, rabbits and guinea pigs. We had lots of fun!
Forest School at Dame Allan's
Our first group of children visited Dame Allan's school to experience their Forest School. We had an amazing time exploring the forest school, playing memory games, making music with natural objects, singing songs and climbing trees.
Planting
We have been planting ready for our Reception garden. we have planted potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and sunflowers.
Spring Term
Our topics this term are 'The Arctic' and 'Space'
Visiting Wardley Gate Care Home
Some of our children visited Wardley Gate care home to work with the residents and Henpower. They placed eggs in an incubator and visited again two weeks later to see if they had hatched.
Science Week
During science week we designed and made rockets and then tested them with an air powered rocket launcher. The children also designed and made boats. They tested the best shape to use and whether materials were waterproof.
Mother's Day Assembly and Afternoon Tea
The reception children held a Mother's Day assembly and then joined their special visitor for afternoon tea.
Meeting the Chicks
The children enjoyed meeting the school chicks. They held them and made observations of them. The children drew and wrote about their observations.
Chinese New Year
We created a large Chinese Dragon which moved and danced its way through school. We also tried Chinese food. The prawn crackers went down very well!
Fun in the Snow
We had lots of fun in the snow and used it in our learning. We developed our physical skills by rolling very large snowballs to make a snowman, we weighed snowballs to see which was the heaviest and compared the sizes of the snowballs we made.
Autumn Term
We are YRGB. We are settling into our new class and exploring all the lovely things in our classroom. Our topics are 'Ourselves and our Families' and 'Celebrations'
Apple Picking
Did you know we have apple trees in the grounds of school?
We had great fun picking the apples from the trees. The tricky part was working out how to reach them. The children had lots of problem solving ideas!

Apple Cookies!!
The children enjoyed weighing out the ingredients, stirring the mixture, baking the cookies and of course the best bit...eating the cookies!
Sharing our work with the Year 1 children.
The Year 1 children came to visit our classroom. They brought their work about owls to share with us and we shared our work with them. It was great to make new friends and talk about our learning.
Teddy Bear's Picnic
After reading 'My friend Bear' and 'It's the Bear' we wrote invitations to our teddy bears for our teddy bear's picnic. We made jam sandwiches and then took our teddies to the park for our picnic.
Visit to the Library
We visited the library and had a fantastic time. We listened to a story and had time to share a book with a friend. We were given our Bookstart packs. We all got a book and a sticker.
Visit to The Hatton Gallery in Newcastle
We visited the Hatton Gallery and explored different art. We looked at the colours, shapes and patterns in the art in the gallery and then tried making our own shape and colour pictures.
Christmas Crafts and Music Morning
We held a Christmas crafts morning and lots of lovely parents and carers came and made lots of different crafts. They were then able to stay for our music session.
