Welcome to Reception (YRGB)
Our topic this term is 'Tell me a Story.'
We are sorry that you are unable to join us for our Mother's Day Assembly. Here are our pictures of our mums and grans and why they are special.
Visit to the Library
We visited the library. We played a game and listened to a story about a monster who was trying to escape from the book. We then chose our own book to bring back to school to read.
World Book Day
We had great fun on world book day. Some of us dressed up as our favourite story character. Mr Bloomfield surprised us as a secret reader and we shared our favourite books with year 3. We drew and talked about our favourite stories and characters.
Every Friday we have a secret reader who comes and reads us their favourite story. We are always so excited to see who it will be.
Mr Wolf's Pancakes/The Runaway Pancake
For Shrove Tuesday we read books about pancakes. We retold the story, wrote lists of ingredients needed to make pancakes and then made and ate some pancakes.
The Frog Prince
We retold the story using puppets and asked for the shop to be made into a puppet theatre! We made our own puppets including some moving frogs. We explored how to join materials for the frog's legs would move.
We enjoyed reading the story 'Handa's Surprise.' We explored the different fruit from the story.
Chinese New Year
We have been learning about the way Chinese New Year is celebrated and the customs and traditions around it. We tasted some Chinese food, had a Chinese restaurant in the role play area, made different crafts and, after seeing a dragon dance, created a large dragon head and danced around the school.
Not a Stick
We read the book 'Not a Stick.' We went on a walk to the park to collect sticks and look at the changes that have occurred in the natural environment. We then decided what our sticks were going to be (using our imagination) and there were some really interesting ideas!
Our topic is 'Marvellous Me'
Reception Christmas Party
We had a great time at our Christmas party. We played games, danced, ate food and even had a special visitor come to see us and give us a present!
Christmas Music Morning
We had a great time at our music morning. We sang songs, played instruments and enjoyed answering Christmas questions.
We have been harvesting vegetables from our reception area garden. We have carrots, runner beans, peas, broad beans and beetroot. What could we make with these?
Apple Picking and Apple Crumble
We picked apples from the school apple trees. Some of the apples were really hard to reach. We then cut the apples and made apple crumble. The classroom smelt delicious whilst the crumble was cooking!
We have settled into our new class really well and have been making friends and exploring the areas of learning.
