Welcome to Y4H

Welcome to the Year 4H class page. This year I am your teacher and our class is supported by Mr Black and Mrs Masson. This year I am looking forward to having lots of fun, working hard and learning lots of new things together! We hope to create an exciting and stimulating learning environment with opportunities for all children to learn and reflect. We also hope to equip your child with the skills needed to succeed in school and in the wider community.  To find out the topics we will be studying, visit the Curriculum page. Good morning! Finally, our two weeks of isolation is over. I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Something extra - This week is anti-bullying week and if we were in school we would be celebrating what makes us all different. I would love to see you all wearing odd socks today and I would like you to design your own odd socks, with lots of things that make you YOU. My odd socks design will be decorated with cups of coffee, biscuits and bulldogs!

Here are our learning overviews from different curriculum areas for your child's continued home learning.

English

This week we will be continuing to read Running on the Roof of the World up to Chapter 12. We will also be looking at the rules for punctuating speech and different ways of opening a story. See PowerPoints below.

Maths

This week we will continue looking at measurement, including calculating the perimeter on a grid, perimeter of a rectangle and rectilinear shapes. See below for PowerPoints and PDF activities. 

Creative Curriculum / Science

- Can you create a poster explaining the seven characteristics of living things?

- Complete some research on topographic maps and write a short paragraph on what they show.

Home Learning - w/c 2/11/20

Here are our learning overviews from different curriculum areas for your child's continued home learning.

 

This week in English we are going to start looking at our new class text, Running on the Roof of the World. Can you make a prediction about what it will be about based on the front cover? Have a read of the blurb and see if you can find out any other information. We will be reading Chapter 1-5 this week, looking at the description used, using conjunctions and looking at how we can improve writing.

 

This week in Maths we will be looking at length, including converting measurements between mm, cm, m and km. See the attached worksheets and PowerPoints.

 

See document for Autumn 2 spellings if you wish to learn spellings at the same time as we are learning them.

In our Whole Class Reading sessions, we will start reading Charlotte’s Web. Please see attached PDF version of the text and read the first 2 chapters.

 

In Creative Curriculum, we will start looking at our new topic Mountains. Create a poster explaining the different parts of a mountain.

We will be looking at the purpose of a recount, how they are structured and build up to writing our own recount of a day in the life of a Viking slave. 

- Research what a Viking slave would do for their daily duties.

- Write a diary from the perspective of a Viking slave.

Maths

We will be looking at adding and subtracting 4-digit numbers with one exchange, building up to multiple exchanges and problem solving. 

Creative Curriculum

We will be looking at the Bayeux Tapestry and Viking religion.

- Research different Viking Gods and create a fact file for 4 Viking Gods.

- Research the Bayeux Tapestry and create a quiz for what it shows us.

Science - We completed an investigation about which pop is the fizziest based on the amount of carbon dioxide it contained. Can you write a prediction and explain why you think this?

The pop we used was: coca cola, diet coke, vimto, soda water and irn bru.
