Welcome to Y1C
Welcome back to school! Y1C have got the year off to a great start. We have been settling in to our new classroom and routines and enjoying our work.
Gruffalo Party
We have really enjoyed reading 'The Gruffalo', and our work in English lessons has been based around this. We planned a party for the Gruffalo, including writing invitations, designing and creating gifts and musical instruments and compiling shopping lists.
Arts Week 2016
As part of Arts Week this year, Y1C took part in a procession along with the rest of the school through Oliver Henderson Park. This was to unveil a beautiful new arch and seating that have been created for the park. Year 1 played the part of 'royal water voles' in the procession. We created crowns, thinking carefully about colours, patterns and materials. We also co-operated with one another to create water voles ears for a friend to stick on their crown. It was a fantastic day and the sun was shining for us as we processed through the park.
Educational Visit to Washington Wetlands 17.10.16
Year 1 had a brilliant time on our trip to the Washington Wetlands this week. We took part in activities such as pond dipping, mini beast hunt, feeding the ducks, otter feeding, flamingo viewing and even after all of that there was still time in the afternoon to have fun with our friends in the park!
Richard 'That History Bloke'
As part of our Families topic in Autumn Term 2, we spent a fantastic afternoon with Richard, a history and heritage education specialist. He came to our class to teach us more about Victorian families in a fun and engaging way. We pretended we were pupils at a Victorian school and played with Victorian toys.

Weather Reports
As part of our science topic 'Seasons' we explored weather that is typical of each season. We became weather reporters and delivered our own weather reports to the class in small groups.
Money
Y1C have really enjoyed learning more about money in Maths lessons. We have been recognising coins and solving problems involving money.
Science Experiment
Miss Collins was fed up with getting wet hands every time she tried to wash the dishes because all of her rubber glove had holes in! She asked Y1C to help her out by choosing appropriate materials to help to cover the hole. Have a look at our designs.
Easter Fun
Year 1 have had lots of fun preparing for Easter this year. We have been decorating Easter eggs, sketching daffodils and even had a visit from the Easter Bunny who left a magical Easter egg hunt for us out on the school field!
