Y1C

Welcome to Y1C!

We have been settling in to our new classroom and routines and we are feeling very grown up now that we are in Year 1! We have enjoyed seeing our friends again after the summer and we are looking forward to learning lots of new and exciting things together.

Meet the Superstars of Y1C

We had a brilliant day at St James' Park as part of our fantastic 'Howay The Lads' topic where we learned lots about our local history and geography. We were lucky enough to have a tour all around the stadium and took part in a healthy eating workshop.

Our Trip to Gibside

We had a wonderful festive time on our trip to Gibside. We embarked on a magical Christmas trail, with a different activity at each stop.

Firework Art

We celebrated Bonfire night by creating beautiful firework pictures using chalk.

Chalk Drawings

Halloween Party

Today we dressed up in our spookiest costumes and enjoyed a fantastic Halloween party! We played party games and danced with our friends.

Buzz and Woody

Buzz and Woody are our Year 1 Guinea Pigs. We love to help to look after them and give them cuddles!

PE- Tennis

This half term we are very lucky because Jonathon the tennis coach is going to teach us how to play tennis.

Maths - Place Value

We have been exploring Place Palue using Base 10 equipment and Numicon.

Fun in the Sun

We made the most of a sunny October day by taking our PE lesson with Mrs B outside. Look at the fun we had!

Only One You

The children have loved reading 'Only One You' by Linda Kranz together as a class. It is a beautiful book with a very important message- there is only one you in the world, try and make it a better place! The story also celebrates diversity and promotes self esteem. We made wonderful paper plate fish just like the ones in the book. Each fish was amazing and unique, just like us.

Self Portraits

We used mirrors to help us think about our facial features and carefully used pencil to create our self portraits.

Art

Pastel Flowers

We looked at 'Sunflowers' By Van Gogh and created some of our own beautiful flowers using pastels.

Planting Sunflower Seeds- Science

Y1C spent a beautiful sunny afternoon planting our own sunflower seeds. We wrote instructions to help us thinking about all of the important steps. We have also been learning about what plants need to grow and survive and the life cycle of a plant.
