Welcome to Stars Nursery!

Summer Term

This term our topic is Growth & Change.

We have set up a campsite in our outdoor area for the children to enjoy during the summer term.

Grass Heads – We created grass heads using tights, grass seed and compost. We are going to keep a diary to see how long their hair grows.

Wormery - Mr Heslop our creative site manager made us a wormery. Some of the children went to our Forest School site to collect soil and worms. We layered the soil with sand and added leaves for the worms to eat. The children have enjoyed looking at the wormery and counting the worms. We are going to keep a photo diary of progress. Keep checking back to see how they get on.

Autumn Term

We have started Phonics this week and have begun to learn what it means to be a good listener!

We put our listening ears on and the children really enjoyed going on a listening walk around school to identify the many different sounds that they could hear.

Our Listening Walk!

Bonjour! We have been learning French!

The children in Stars Nursery have been enjoying weekly French lessons. They are learning all about France and how to say some simple French phrases. They have also had lots of fun listening and dancing to some French songs!

Drum Outdoors!

Following on from our listening walk last week, the children in Stars nursery have been exploring what different sounds they can make by drumming different objects outdoors. They loved using beaters on lots of different surfaces to test the sound it made. Some sounds were high pitched, some were loud and some sounds were quite quiet and low pitched. It was great fun!

Exploring Different Sounds!

We have been making our own self portraits in Stars Nursery this week. The children have been looking closely at their eye colour and their hair colour using a mirror. They have also been practicing forming the letters in their names.

First, we looked in the mirror to find out our eye and hair colour. Then we picked out the best match from various materials to make our self portraits. After that we added the finishing touches!

Our Music Morning!

On Wednesday we were very lucky to have some fantastic musicians come into school and perform for the children. This was the first time that they had all sat in the hall together. They sat beautifully and really enjoyed listening to the story of Mr Big and singing and dancing along to the music.

As you can see, we all had a great time!

Forest School!

This week, some of our children had their first Forest School session. They all had a great time meeting Papa Troll and making bracelets from 'Fairy Breath!'

They also had a great time making cakes and soup in the mud kitchen and having a good explore of the area. Overall, it was a great morning enjoyed by all.

Look at how much fun they all had!

 Our Spooktacular Halloween!

The children in Stars Nursery have had a brilliant Halloween playing games and decorating pumpkins. They all looked spooktacular in their amazing costumes and have enjoyed dancing and eating yummy snacks at our fabulous Halloween party! Check out the pictures below to see the fun we all had.

Our Fantastic Halloween Costumes and Activities!

Everyone had a great time at our Halloween Party!

Our Brilliant Firework and Bonfire Night Activities!

The children loved getting messy making our class firework display! They used black card and paint to make splatter 'fireworks.'

We used Fidget Spinners and paint to create amazing Catherine Wheel pictures!
We used a selection of colourful fruit to make healthy, firework fruit kebabs! These were enjoyed by everyone at snack time. The children practiced counting out how many pieces of fruit they had.
We also took part in lots of other exciting learning activities, all themed around Bonfire Night!

We dressed up for Children in Need on the 17th November 2017. All of the children donated and we talked about what Children in Need is all about.

Overall, we managed to raise a fantastic £422.10 for Children in Need.

Huge thank you to everybody for your donations!
