Religious Education is part of a pupil’s entitlement from Reception through to the end of Sixth Form. R.E is compulsory and is taught throughout each year group at Lingey House. In school, we teach R.E using the Discovery R.E scheme of work, which covers the Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculum. It adopts an enquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. Christianity is taught in every year group, with Christmas and Easter given new treatment each year, developing the learning in a progressive way. Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism are also covered.
Each enquiry based block has a learning objective which shows the learning over the enquiry and SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) development opportunities are mapped throughout. Children are encouraged to ask big questions, think critically and evaluate their own thinking.
The children enjoy learning stories from different cultures. RE lessons at Lingey House support spiritual development and equip children for a world of diversity. Children have regular assemblies thinking about religious festivals and are involved in whole school worship and prayer.
