Our Governors

Role of a Governor

The Governing Body of a school is responsible for ensuring that it is run to promote the very best of outcomes for children.  Governors work closely with head teachers, school staff and representatives from the local authority (LA).

Its duties include:

  • Setting strategic direction, policies and objectives
  • The school budget
  • Reviewing progress against the school’s budget and objectives
  • Appointing, challenging and supporting the head teacher

The Governing Body is made up of:

  • Parent governors (elected by parents)
  • Staff representatives (elected by school staff)
  • Local authority governors (appointed by the local authority)
  • Community governors (appointed by the governing body

Meet Our Governing Body

Name About me...
Chair of Governors & Chair of Resources Committee
Karen Crozier

I am a co-opted governor currently holding the role of Chair of the Governing Board and I am also a member of the Resources Committee.  I am a qualified accountant and have worked in practice for over 30 years. I am currently a senior manager looking after the audit and accounts department.

I am married and have two boys. My eldest son is at college and my youngest son just left Lingey House in the summer.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading and listening to music, attending live concerts where possible and I also enjoy following international rugby.

I became a governor because, as an ex-Lingey House pupil, I was delighted to be able to send my two sons there and I have a really strong affiliation with the school. I want to give something back to the school that set me on the right path many years ago, and also assist in ensuring the school is well-equipped to face all the challenges that modern education brings, thus providing the best possible education and learning environment for all pupils who attend.

Vice Chair of Governors
Lesley Flecknell

I am a co-opted Governor at Lingey House.  I am on both the Curriculum and the Standards and Resources Committees.  The reason I became a governor, is because when we moved to the area in 2013, I felt incredibly lucky to have been able to send our children to Lingey House. I was blown away by how welcoming the parents and teachers were, and the way that they place children at the front and centre of all they do. When the opportunity to apply to be a governor came up, I jumped at the chance to become more involved in this community; and I am very fortunate still to be a governor.

Outside of school, I am a woman's and communities' worker at a local church.  I am married to Rob, with whom I have two boys.  Both of my sons now attend secondary school, but previously attended Lingey House.  In my spare time I am actively involved in my church community; I have an interest in history and enjoy reading historical biographies. I enjoy baking and trying new recipes.

Joanne Jackson

Hello my name is Joanne Jackson and I have worked at Lingey House for over 26 years teaching in all year groups from Nursery to Year 6. I have had lots of roles during my time here and I have loved them all.  My passions are maths, puzzles and the outdoors. I enjoy leading assemblies in school, especially the achievement ones, as it is wonderful to celebrate all the different things that our children do throughout the week.

I am looking forward to teaching Year 5 this year and making lessons as creative and interactive as possible.

I live in Newcastle and have 2 grown-up boys and two cats.  In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, spending time in my garden and going on walks.
