Music is a universal language and has one of the highest forms of creativity. At Lingey House Primary School, we provide a high-quality music education which engages children and this will help them develop a love of music. Children are provided with opportunities to develop their talent as musicians and this helps to develop their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. 



  • Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians 

  • Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence 

  • To understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.


Key Stage 2

Music is taught through a creative approach. Children have the opportunity to play various instruments such as trumpets, cellos flutes, etc… 

  • Children in year 3 learn about rhythms, how to read music and learn how to play the recorder. 

  • In year 4, the children begin to learn about the music program ‘Charanga’. This program helps children learn how to read music and develops their listening skills. It allows children to develop their music skills using ICT. The children have a focus on ‘Garage band’ music. 

  • The year 5 and year 6 children have participated in a class orchestra. They each played a musical instrument and played ‘Havana’. The children performed extremely well! 


Key Stage 1

  • Key Stage 1 children attended a music work shop with a Disney theme. 

  • Children explored a variety of musical instruments which were tuned and unturned. 


Early Years Foundation Stage

  • Children in the Early Years have access to a range of tuned and unturned musical instruments.

  • Children have attended music workshops, where music is linked through stories. 


Extra-Curricular Activities

Lingey House Primary School provides a range of extra-curricular activities for music and these are:-

  • Choir 

  • Garage Band

  • Keyboard lessons

  • Violin lessons

  • Guitar lessons
