Funding for 2020 - 2021
Allocation £19,390
We have signed up to Premium SLA with Gateshead School Sports Partnership (GSSP). This provides us with contacts for various coaches, entry to all festivals free of charge and we have selected an add to receive 2 days of specialist support from Nicola Noble.
In all of our sessions, teachers accompany the coach and they use this as CPD. Along with many of our staff running after-school clubs we also paid for tennis, rugby golf and dance coaching throughout the year.
In order to increase the amount of high-quality PE, we have employed coaches to coordinate lunchtime activities and they ran sports that were most popular with the children. On a Monday we had dance, and on Wednesday and Friday we had futsal. The sessions ran 12-12:30 for KS1 and 12:30 - 1:15 KS2. We also had rugby scheduled in summer term in addition to the above but this was not able to go ahead due to Covid 19.
Impact of Funding
The funding has had a positive impact on sport within the school. It has allowed children from Reception through to Year 6 to receive specialist coaching in at least two sports. These sessions have allowed staff to gain ideas for future lessons and has meant that the session can be split into two groups with the teacher leading one and the coach the other. This has enabled teachers to improve their practice when it comes to teaching these subjects in PE. Due children becoming more confident in a particular sport and with coach this has resulted in many of our pupils attending sessions out of school hours. The school have been able to carry on its aim of providing every year group, boy and girl, the opportunity to take part in an active after school club at least one night a week. The school has been providing a range of clubs including Multi-skills, Football, Netball, Dance, Ball Games, Forest School, Change 4 Life, Boot Camp and Golf. The amount of clubs was due to increase in summer term as we can have more than one sporting club running a night by using the hall and the field/MUGA sadly we were not able to deliver due to Covid 19. A further 10 people joined Change4Life club as many of the older members joined other clubs. As part of being a healthy school we had an afternoon with nutri-troops so that the children had a greater knowledge about the food that they should eat. To develop this we provided stickers and rewards for healthy pack lunches as well as offering tasting stations.
Sustainability
As we have a large pool of staff prepared to do after school clubs we are able to continue to offer at least one sporting club Monday to Thursday. Many staff will run a club because they have increased confidence in teaching it after working alongside a coach in curriculum time. In curriculum coaching we have a focus that we want to work on, last year it was fitness/ movement skills so now all staff are confident in running these session so staff will deliver these sessions. We have numerous coaches teaching an array of sports but teacher works alongside the coach working with groups initially and gradually developing their responsibilities. This in turn will help the class teacher to teach this sport in the future.
Staff CPD in games meant that lunch time supervisors now have a large amount of games that they can organise. This means that there will be more sporting opportunities in the short and long term.MR attended a course on assessment so now a simply to follow assessment is place across the school. MR also worked with Nicola Noble to provide core tasks for every block of coaching so now all year groups have ready made lessons plans.
