Welcome to Reception
Welcome to our class page. In YRM we have lots of fun and love coming to school. We hope you enjoy looking at all of our photographs and finding out what we have been learning about in our class!
Jack and the Beanstalk
FEE FI FO FUM...bellows of booming voiced could be heard through the corridors of the early years building as YRM enjoyed learning all about Jack and the Beanstalk! As part of our learning we did lots of different things:
-building beanstalks in the construction area
-creating a giant's kitchen in our role play area
-giant writing using enormous pencils and pieces of paper
-measuring giant footsteps
-planting our very own beanstalks
In YRM we are working hard to be able to recognise numbers to 10 and then to 20. we can count objects to match numbers and have been enjoying learning about more and less. We have lots of fun playing and learning with numbers...
Welcome to the Shape Shop!
We have been learning all about the names and features of simple shapes. In our classroom, we opened the Shape Shop! Customers can ring us up and ask for some shapes. Sometimes Miss Mundy forgot what shapes were called, so we had to describe what the shape looked like to help her. We have been learning all about corners and sides too!
Visit to the Library
The Booktime Booktrust very kindly give children in reception a free book when they start school. On Monday 20th October, we went to visit our local library at Leam Lane. We heard a brilliant story called 'Hairy Maclary' and then had some time to explore the library. Did you know that you can borrow books, story sacks and DVDs from the library for free? We had a lovely time and all got two free books to enjoy at home!
Outdoor Learning Week
Outdoor learning week was Monday 10th October - Friday 14th October. YRM had a fantastic week! Our story of the week was 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt'. We enjoyed reading it and acting out the story. We can teach you the song if you visit us in our classroom. We went out on a bear hunt to the woods at school, travelling through the long grass, thick mud and deep forest to find the BEAR!
Kath Bedingfield visited us on Tuesday and told su the story of the Tree Spirits. We used natural materials to create our own tree spirits, they look fantastic!
We also made shaker instruments using recyled materials and then perfomed as part of our whole school band!
Writing is Fun!
We are beginning to learn how to read and write some sounds in YRM and we have been doing lots of fun activities to help us learn. It's really important to practise our pencil grip and make sure we are forming our letters correctly. Here are some photographs and ideas of different ways we have been writing our letters (bith big and small)...
Maybe you could help us at home? We have been using:
-gloop bags (paint and PVA glue)
-coloured sand and paintbrushes
-gems and mirrors
Visit to the vets!
Some children in YRM and YRS were very interested in learning more about animals and how we take care of them. Miss Mundy took a group of children from both classes to visit the lovely people who work at Value Vets in Fewster Square. The brilliant vet, Emma, showed us all around the vets and even let us stay in to look at some animals. We watched as two tortoises had their beaks trimmed and then a cat George was having a check up. We learnt lots and it helped us to set up our own vets area in the classroom. Thanks so much Value Vets!
Mr Football is Fantastic!
We have PE twice a week, on a Monday afternoon and a Thursday morning. On a Monday, Mr Football comes to teach our PE lesson. We learn all about finding a space; moving in different ways and balancing. Mr Football, Mick and Josh are brilliant at helping us to learn more about our bodies and staying healthy too!
