Year 1 (Mrs McEnaney)
As part of their creative curriculum, 'Can Buildings Talk? ', Yr3/4 have been looking at circuits and electricity. Children learnt about the dangers of electricity and how switches help make buildings energy efficient. Children created their own circuits by using the correct symbols and then constructed the components to create the circuits. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the hands on experience and demonstrated a potential to be excellent electricians of the future!
Members of the Tyne & Wear Fire Service visited Lingey House on Tuesday 23rd February to give a fire safety talk to pupils from Y1 and from Y5 & Y6.
Pupils learnt about the job of a firefighter, about fire safety at home and at school and what to do should they ever discover a fire.
Pupils had the opportunity to dress as firefighters, to see a fire engine and to see photographs and dvd footage of the causes and effects of fires.
All staff and children from Lingey House would like to thank the fire fighters for visiting our school. We enjoyed the sessions and learnt some very important messages.
Did you enjoy the fire safety talk? What important messages did you learn? Share your 'comments' below.
National Sing Up Day takes place on Wednesday 24th February.
To mark the event Lingey House will be having a special 'singing' assembly. Each class will be performing a new song that they have learnt especially for the event.
What do you think about your class song? Do you like singing in school? Share your thoughts by clicking on the 'comments' button below.
This week’s session saw Mr Mackley introduce the traditional Maori dance, Haka, to the children. Mrs Gray was very impressed how the children picked up the moves quickly. Many children will recognise the Haka from the New Zealand rugby team who perform the dance before every game to acknowledge the courage of opposition for playing.
On Friday 5th February as part of 'National Storytelling Week', teachers will visit a different class in the school to read aloud their favourite story.
Maybe you could read a story to a brother or sister this week, or make an extra special effort to read aloud to an adult every night.
Share your storytelling experiences with us by clicking on the 'comments' button below?
Children from Years 3 and 4 have began to participate in the schools 'Fitness Club' ran by Mrs Gray and Mr Mackley. Children will look to boost their fitness whilst learning all about the human body and how it works. The first session saw Mrs Gray and Mr Mackley shaking their hips and challenging children to hula-hoop whilst jumping! The children are look forward to next week when Mr Mackley introduces the ' Haka! '
Thank you for your generosity, it was very kind of you all to donate a coin for the children of Haiti.
Many children added a coin to a spiral of coins to help the families devastated by the recent earthquake in Haiti.
Some children were very generous, especially Katie Sanderson from Y2/3 who brought her piggy bank full of coins to add to the spiral!
As part our creative curriculum ‘Who Am I?’ The children have been investigating their local area, Leam Lane. On Friday, with help from Mrs Gray and Mrs Brauns, we decided to have a walk around the local area and identify key features of the estate. The children enjoyed their walk and were able to provide feedback on what they liked and dislike about the area.

All friends and family are invited to our class assemblies. Assemblies start at 9:10am on a Friday morning and normally last for approximately 20 minutes.
Please join your child for refreshments in their classroom after the assembly.
Could we please remind all parents and visitors to turn off their mobile phones during the assemblies. Also could parents please take young children out of the hall if they start to cry.
Young children are welcome to join us for class assemblies but it can be upsetting for children performing if there is disruption in the audience.
Thank you for your co-operation on this matter.
On Friday 20th October Year 3-4 took part in Gateshead Council’s Road Show - ‘Park Life’ at the Dryden Centre. Along with other schools around the borough, the children were asked to create their own Parks. Working together as a team, children had to allocate roles and responsibilities within their group. These included accountants, designers and creators. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the event and produced some fabulous Parks!
On Friday 13th November Year 3-4 will be performing their 'Time Machine - The Romans' class assembly. The assembly starts at 9:15 am and all friends and family of the pupils in Mr Mackley's class are welcome to attend. The assembly will last for approximately 20 minutes and refreshments will be served in the classroom afterwards.

Lingey House is an outstanding school. Pupils, staff and parents readily embrace the school’s motto ‘to aim high’ and this is evidenced most clearly in the excellent progress pupils make, the high standards they attain, and in the exceptional
curriculum and care, guidance and support provided. [Ofsted May 2009]
Pupils talk enthusiastically and with confidence, about how
much they enjoy school, and how, ‘Lingey House is the best school in the universe’, and this can be seen in their very positive attitudes to learning and their exemplary behaviour. [Ofsted May 2009]

We will be sending off our uniform order at the end of the week to allow for delivery before the end of the summer term.
Anyone wishing to order school uniform should complete an order form before Friday 12th June.

Please note that payment must be made before an order can be accepted.
We have received a complaint from the Council about dog fouling on the grassed areas around school. It appears adults collecting children are leaving dogs tied up outside the school gates. Can we ask that dogs are not left unattended next to the school gate nor must they be brought onto the school premises. If your dog fouls outside the school, could you please clean up after it.

A number of children and adults have been recently injured on the school premises by children riding bikes and scooters. Bikes and scooters must be pushed whilst on school premises. Children riding bikes to school should also be wearing a helmet.

Would all parents please ensure that the school office has up-to-date contact numbers.
Many Thanks
Mrs Jones (Headteacher)

As part of our week-long celebrations we are producing a ’50 Years of Lingey House DVD’ and putting up a large display of pupil memories in the school hall.
We are aware that many of our parents are former pupils of the school and are looking for any photographs, newspaper cuttings etc that people might have from their time at Lingey House.
Photographs will be scanned to be used for the DVD and then will be put up on display in the hall.
If you have anything that you think would be suitable for display please send it into school in an envelope with your child.

The 'Spud Buster' choice will run for a trial period over the course of the next half-term. Children staying for school meals will need to choose either a 'Spud Buster' lunch or a regular school meal when the dinner register is taken every morning. Please consult your school meal menu and prepare your child to make this choice. Additional copies of the current menu are available at the school office.
May I take this opportunity to remind all parents that school meals should be paid for in advance on a Monday morning for any meals required during the week. Those parents who we have to regularly remind about unpaid dinner money may be asked to either provide a packed lunch for their child or collect them for home dinner.

With Guy Fawkes Night fast approaching Firework Safety Workshops have been arranged for all classes.
These will be held in school on Friday 3rd October.
We are lucky to have an organised fireworks display in the Oliver Henderson Park each year. Lingey House Primary School actively promotes attendance only at 'organised' displays.

New parents may not be aware that Family Assemblies are usually held on Friday mornings. Classes take turns in leading assemblies and parents, carers, grandparents and friends are all welcome to attend. Refreshments are served in classrooms after the assembly. It’s a perfect time to visit your child’s classroom and have a look around on an informal basis.

Mrs Jones found it very difficult to judge the art work created by Y1/2 and Y2. Many thanks to Miss Lyall and Miss Charlton for supporting the children with this work.
