Good News about our Orchard
We have won funding from Gateshead's Trees for Life Grant initiative. This money will pay for our orchard. It will also pay for an expert to visit school to train staff and children to maintain and care for the trees. This is a very exciting project and we will be planting the first trees just after half term.

Fitness Club
This week’s session saw Mr Mackley introduce the traditional Maori dance, Haka, to the children. Mrs Gray was very impressed how the children picked up the moves quickly. Many children will recognise the Haka from the New Zealand rugby team who perform the dance before every game to acknowledge the courage of opposition for playing.

The children of the choir are once more taking part in the singalong at Dryden Centre.
This has become an annual event and this year the songs are all about rivers and the sea.
The children are very busy on Wednesday evenings learning the songs and hope to sing some of them in assembly very soon so that you can all hear how good they sound.

Lingey House Athletics Team Success

Our athletics team had a very successful day at the Gateshead Primary Schools Athletics Festival on Friday 26th June. All of our competitors were successful in gaining places in the semi finals of the track events, with most going on to the finals. Medals were won for the following events:
Boys skipping race
Girls 600m race
Boys 600m race
Girls relay
Girls cricket ball throw
The boys narrowly missed out on a gold medal for their relay race when one of them slipped on the track due to the adverse weather conditions. All competitors performed well and enjoyed the event even though they all got a soaking!
We are extremely proud of all of them.

Lingey House Gardening Club
I'm sure you've all noticed the fabulous improvements that have taken place to our school grounds throughout 2007. As a result we've entered the school in the Gateshead East In Bloom and Beautiful Gateshead garden competitions.
Mr Bailey Snr and the Lingey House Gardening Club have been working hard throughout the year planting, weeding, digging . . . and making Lingey House a colourful and welcoming place in which to come and work and learn.
Mrs Ritchie and the school council have overseen the opening of our new tyre park, outdoor classroom and the decked area at the back of our school. All of these have contributed greatly to the landscape of our school.
Members of our Gardening Club and teaching staff will attend the presentation evenings for both the Gateshead East and Beautiful Gateshead competitions.
Let's keep our fingers crossed. The efforts of all concerned deserve to be rewarded!

Footballers Crowned Champions
Our school football team were crowned champions on Thursday evening after a nail-biting climax to the season.
Despite dominating the first three games against St.Augustine's, Falla Park and Roman Road, they were all to end in 0-0 draws.
It was the final game against Oakifield that proved to be crucial. A brilliant 2-0 had Lingey in top spot, but we now had to sweat on the result of the final match of the night between Roman Road and St.Augustine's.
A draw was what we were looking for and each attempt on goal had our hearts in our mouths.
After what seemed like an eternity the referee blew the whistle with the scores still goalless and the Lingey celebrations began.
The success is richly deserved after what has been a truely memorable season.
The boys will be presented with their trophies at the presentation night on Thursday 12th July at the Tyneview Club, Pelaw (7:15pm start).
Well done boys, we are all proud of you!

League Champions

Three wins out of three on the night meant that Lingey House won every single game of the season and as a result were rightfully crowned as league champions.
In the first match of the night a brace from Luke saw Lingey record a 2-0 win over Carr Hill.
In the second match Lingey went goal crazy, coming out 8-1 winners over Brandling. Hatricks from Jordan and Connor, were added to by goals from Luke and Shaun.
The final match of the night saw a 4-0 win over St.Albans. 2 more goals from Jordan, an own goal and a 4th of the night from Luke capped a truely memorable season.
Well done boys. We are all proud of you.

Lingey House 10 - White Mere 0
The football team's fantastic run continued as they recorded a 10-0 win against White Mere. A first-half brace from Connor, along with goals from Jordan, Luke and Shaun had Lingey 5-0 up at half-time. Five more goals were to follow in the second half through Jordan (2), Luke, Connor and Adam to cap a memorable night for the home side.
If this form can be continued, then there is every chance that the league trophy will soon be paraded at Lingey!
