20 pupil's from year 6 enjoyed a visit to Alderman Fenwick House on Pilgrim Street, Newcastle today.
They learnt about the history of the building over the last 300 years. For the first hundred years it was a residential house.
The next hundred years it was an inn (The Queen's Head) and one of the stopping places of travellers, travelling up and down from Scotland to the south. Charles Dickens was one of it's famous guests.
At the end of WWII the building was in a poor condition and the owners wanted it demolished.
However in 1982 the Preservation Trust started the long, hard task of restoring the beautiful building. It took 15 years to restore but a lot of that time was spent raising the money to pay for the restoration. By 1997 it was complete back to it's original beauty.
Year 6 then went on to learn about the monetry system. They had q quiz about spotting counterfeit notes. wel done to Alexa and Rachel who spotted all the fakes.
We would like to thank David Buffham and Brian Jobling for their inputs today and making the visit enjoyable and a hugesuccess.
Hope you're not going to be paying with fake notes for your 'Memories' DVDs Year 6! . . . only joking!
Looks like a very interesting and enjoyable day.
Mr Bailey
I agree with Mrs Jackson- it was a very enjoyable and informative visit. Mr Jobling was presented with a 'Birthday Pen' and he is going to use it for all visitors to the house. Lingey House on the map again!!!! Well done Alexa and Rachel for spotting the fake notes- you'll go far.
